Floral Specialist

STANDARD HOURS/WEEK: 40 (approximate), typically Monday-Friday during standard business hours; however, the schedule is largely dictated by client needs and may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, non-exempt

TRAVEL: Work will be primarily out of the branch, and at client locations. Out of town travel due to client needs may be required, depending on job specifics.

JOB SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Floral Specialists assist with designing, creating, and selling floral arrangements for various occasions. Daily floral responsibilities include caring for flowers, designing and assembling a variety of floral arrangements (including bouquets, centerpieces, corsages, wreaths, etc.) for events, weddings, funerals, holidays, and special occasions. Additionally they greet and assist customers in person, via email, or on the phone with sales of floral products, gift items, and live plants, often using a Point of Sale (POS) system. They provide customer consultations to select appropriate flowers and accessories, provide advice based on occasion and budget, take customer orders, process payments, and ensure accurate record-keeping of orders and delivery information. Floral Specialists pack and protect arrangements for transport, and coordinate or assist with deliveries as needed.

Floral Specialists may also be required to assist with physical setup and breakdown of floral and decor arrangements at events. They may assist with flower preparation, packing, loading, and transporting materials to event venues, setting up large-scale floral installations and decorative elements, such as floral arches and wall displays while collaborating with team members and event staff to ensure timely and precise execution according to the client's vision and the event's overall design.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Possess creative & artistic skills with a strong eye for color, texture, balance, and proportion to create aesthetically pleasing arrangements.
  • High attention to detail is essential for precise arrangement assembly, and accurate order processing
  • Organizational Skills for managing inventory, maintaining a tidy workspace, and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A genuine interest in flowers, plants, and floral design is a strong asset.
  • Willingness to collaborate effectively with a team and follow management direction.
  • Be adaptable and flexible to make adjustments to arrangements based on unexpected changes, or specific client requests.
  • Familiarity with event setup and breakdown procedures, basic understanding of floral and event logistics, as well as common venue policies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to be clear and concise via phone, email, and in person effectively interact with staff, customers, and other departments.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation required.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Requires standing for long periods and working in cooler temperatures due to the storage of fresh flowers.
  • Able to work steadily at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your hands, arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials for a prolonged period of time.
  • A steady energy level, and a calm demeanor.
  • Able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to operate hand, and power tools.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Able to frequently climb and descend stairs and ladders and to work safely at heights.
  • Able to perform all essential functions with, or without reasonable accommodations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires employees to work in a wide variety of work environments including in extreme heat and cold. Loud noises, both sustained and sudden, are common in some environments. This position also works in a typical office/retail environment where frequent interruptions are common.
