Production Team Lead

STANDARD HOURS/WEEK: 40 (approximate) with overtime as needed. The schedule will typically be Monday-Saturday during standard business hours with one business day off during the week; however, the schedule is largely dictated by client needs and will include long days, evening hours, and weekends.

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, non-exempt

TRAVEL: Work will be primarily out of the branch, and at client locations. Out of town travel due to client needs may be required, depending on job specifics.

JOB SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Production Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the setup and breakdown of event equipment and infrastructure, ensuring everything is in place according to client specifications and safety standards. This role involves leading a team of installers, driving vehicles to transport equipment, and providing excellent customer service. Production Team Leads are responsible for team management through training, and supervising event staff by assigning tasks and ensuring they understand their roles. They will monitor, and participate in, loading and unloading event equipment from trucks or other vehicles and ensuring safe and efficient transport to and from the event venue, physically setting up and dismantling event equipment according to event diagrams and instructions while oftentimes motivating a team of installers, providing guidance and direction. The Production Team Lead will interact with both Sales Project Managers and clients, to understand their requirements, and ensure their needs are met throughout the event; and possess the ability to address any issues or challenges that arise during the event setup or breakdown, finding solutions efficiently.

In addition to on-site work, a Production Team Lead will be expected to work closely with the Sales and Production team within the warehouse to maintain, prep, load, and deliver items; as well as the return of all gear, supplies, tools, and equipment to the warehouse. They will be required to complete necessary paperwork and reports related to the event setup and equipment. While at the warehouse they must keep track of equipment, ensure it is properly stored and maintained, as well as ensure all equipment meets quality standards, and is properly functioning before the event starts. In essence, a Production Team Lead is a hands-on leader who plays a crucial role in the success of a project by ensuring that pre and post project work is executed flawlessly as directed by leadership.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Versed in event elements like audiovisual equipment, furniture, tables, chairs, staging, dance floors, drape, hardware, and other décor.
  • Able to follow instructions, both written and verbal, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership with the ability to motivate, and direct a team.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy objects, as well as the ability to work long hours and handle the physical demands of event setup and takedown.
  • Need to be detail-oriented to ensure accurate setup and takedown of equipment.
  • Computer literate and comfortable using a computer for various tasks. Preferably proficient in Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite).
  • Expertise in, and the ability to teach others, the proper use and care of hand and power tools with the knowledge of principles, techniques, methods, and equipment used in live events.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to be clear and concise via phone, email, and in person.
  • Strong time management skills with adaptability to changing priorities, deadlines, and the ability to manage numerous concurrent projects.
  • Possess good judgment, sensitivity, analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and problem solve.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work enthusiastically with a wide range of individuals to foster productive partnerships and relationships, both internally and externally.

  • Must be tenacious, flexible, and exhibit good humor under pressure.
  • Able to safely load, unload, and transport event equipment using appropriate vehicles like box trucks and vans.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to safely operate and drive box trucks or other company vehicles to transport equipment and personnel to events in accordance with company policies.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Able to work steadily and physically for long periods of time.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your hands, arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials for a prolonged period of time.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs without assistance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires employees to work in a wide variety of work environments including in extreme heat and cold. Loud noises, both sustained and sudden, are common in some environments.

MATERIALS

  • Provide own smartphone capable of taking and sending pictures. A discounted phone plan is available after 60 days of employment.
  • Provide own steel-toed shoes/boots, and replace as needed.
  • Provide and maintain own tools except:
    • Power tools such as Hammer Drill, Porta-Band
    • Hand tools such as Bolt Cutter, Cable Cutter/Crimper, Track Bender
